Johnson
What did Congressman Burton do for Johnson County?
1) Flood Plain Issues
During the 109th Congress Congressman Burton sponsored a successful Amendment to National Flood Insurance legislation to require FEMA to notify residents via first-class mail when changes to flood maps impact their property. The amendment makes prior notification of potential flood map changes and public hearings on the issue more transparent for homeowners; and was in direct response to the problems encountered by residents in Johnson County who were affected by recent changes to local flood plain maps. The bill was not considered by the Senate before the end of the 109th Congress. When the bill is brought before the House again during this Congress, Congressman Burton will be right there with his amendment. In the meantime, Congressman Burton is continuing to work with the INDNR and FEMA to resolve the outstanding Johnson County issues.
2) Snow Storm Recovery
As he has done several times in the past few years when tragedy has struck our State, Congressman Burton, as Dean of the House delegation, is bringing together Indiana’s Senators and bipartisan House delegation to send a letter to President Bush asking him to approve and expedite Governor Daniel’s request for federal assistance to help disaster stricken Hoosier communities affected by the recent snow storm recover.
