Hamilton

What has Dan Burton done for Hamilton County?

1)    146th Street I-69 Access Project - $3 Million
Project will reduce congestion in rapid growth area, foster economic development & improve air quality and road safety.  Hamilton Co. Board of Commissioners believes that I-69 access is vitally important to the continued growth of Hamilton Co.  State has committed $9 Million to the project over the next five years.

2)    Hazel Dell Road Project - $1 Million
This project connects the Hazel Dell Pkwy with Little Chicago Rd. in Noblesville and completes a major north-south artery to the 146th St. Corridor.  The project will help alleviate congestion, foster economic development and improve air quality and traffic safety.  Hamilton Co. and Noblesville have each contributed an additional $500,000 to the project.

3)    Riverwalk Project - $375,000
Project addresses a critical public safety issue by moving pedestrians using government services or downtown businesses away from busy congested streets.  The project enhances the quality of life in the community – which is a critical factor for businesses seeking to retain and recruit a quality workforce – and it provides safer road crossings for pedestrians while reducing traffic congestion.  Hamilton Co. has allocated $28,000 to the project and is aggressively raising additional funds from private sources.

4)    126th Street Improvement Project - $1.25 Million
Project widens 126th St. from a 2-lane rural road to a 4-lane divided highway with commensurate curb and storm water run-off improvements – a significant improvement to a roadway grid that currently distributes a large traffic volume around the Central Indiana area.  The project will significantly improve traffic congestion as well as pedestrian safety along the roadway.

5)    Cyntheanne Road Interchange - $1 Million
Project widens 1.5 miles of Cyntheanne Rd. from a 2-lane rural road to a 4 lane divided highway with commensurate curb and storm water run-off improvements.  The project also connects Cyntheanne Rd to I-69.  Currently the roadway is unable to meet the traffic needs of commercial and residential customers in the area.  Improving the roadway is also a critical component of an economic redevelopment plan centered on relocating the Indianapolis Metropolitan Airport to a site north of I-69 adjacent to Cyntheanne Rd.

6)    Construction of multi-use paths - $250,000
Project consists of constructing 9 miles of multi-use paths completing 101 miles of paths linking schools, parks, residential neighborhoods, commercial districts and municipal buildings.  These types of interconnected paths improve the quality of life in the community, pull pedestrians off busy congested streets, provide intermodal transportation options – such as bicycles, roller blades, segways – reduce congestion by encouraging more people to walk or bicycle, and by extension improve air quality.  This project in particular ties closely in with the goals of the Safe Routes to School program.

7)    Old Meridian Street Redevelopment - $1.125 Million
The project widens approximately 1.2 miles of this 2-lane rural road to a 4-lane divided urban arterial street with commensurate curb and storm water run-off improvements.  Adjacent to and intersecting with the US 31 Business District, Old Meridian Street is the backbone of the region’s economic development plan.  When completed the project will spur economic development, relieve congestion on nearby parallel roadways and enhance safety for pedestrians and motorized traffic.  Regional Transportation officials support the project and consider it important from the standpoint of safety, air quality, economic vitality and local system continuity.

8)    Snow Storm Recovery
As he has done several times in the past few years when tragedy has struck our State, Congressman Burton, as Dean of the House delegation, is bringing together Indiana’s Senators and bipartisan House delegation to send a letter to President Bush asking him to approve and expedite Governor Daniel’s request for federal assistance to help disaster stricken Hoosier communities affected by the recent snow storm recover.

Current/Ongoing Projects for Hamilton County

1)    Hazel Dell Road Project
On behalf of Hamilton County, Congressman Burton is fighting to obtain a technical correction to the federal highway bill so that federal money currently allocated to the completed Hazel Dell Rd project can stay in Hamilton County and be used accelerate completion of the much needed 146th Street I-69 project.  Without this correction the unallocated Hazel Dell Road funds will go back to the Treasury.
