What did Congressman Burton do for Grant County?

1)    Design Engineering, right of way acquisition, and construction for the Grant County Economic Corridor Amount Requested - $2 Million
The project redesigns and rebuilds 5 miles of County Roads west of I-69 between State Route 18 and State Route 22.  The project provides significant congestion relieve and safety improvements and is critical to commitments made to attract new business to the Grant County area – which currently suffers with a 10.2 percent unemployment rate.  For example, the new Wal-Mart distribution center will add a significant number of new heavy vehicles to this transportation network which the network is not currently able to accommodate safely.

2)    Indiana Wesleyan University - $500,000
This project creates new nursing programs and also aids the transformation of existing classrooms into laboratories to teach more nurses.  This is in order to meet the demands of Indiana’s nursing shortage.

3)    Memorial Coliseum Redevelopment - $330,000 in FY05 and $500,000 in FY06 Project refurbishes the existing Coliseum in conjunction with the YMCA of Marion

4)    Snow Storm Recovery
As he has done several times in the past few years when tragedy has struck our State, Congressman Burton, as Dean of the House delegation, is bringing together Indiana’s Senators and bipartisan House delegation to send a letter to President Bush asking him to approve and expedite Governor Daniel’s request for federal assistance to help disaster stricken Hoosier communities affected by the recent snow storm recover.
